Hi there,
I’m Beatrix – The Voyager!
Welcome to my world!
Are you curious about who am I? Let me take you to my adventures!

My name is Beatrix Nguyen and my friends usually call me Bee. The meaning of my name is the traveler or the voyager in the Late Latin origin, so you can remember me as Bee who love flying around and bringing happiness.
I was born and grew up in a fast globalizing city named Hochiminh in Vietnam, an Asian country. My hometown is one of the biggest economic hub in Vietnam so you can find an active and diverse lifestyle there. From the local farm stays to the luxury skyscraper hotels, from the tasty street food vendors to the sociable night bar, I promise Hochiminh city will enlighten your senses with our unique cultures and friendly locals.

Since I moved to Kamloops for my study in TRU, I have been experienced a completely different lifestyle. Although there are not many shopping streets and most of restaurants close before 9pm, I am still enjoying the fresh air and the panoramic view of the mountains and rivers in Kamloops. I also have more chances to connect with the nature through many outdoor activities such as hiking, snowshoeing and skiing.
What I like to do in tourism are experiencing, feeling and sharing. I am interested in exploring new places, trying some new cuisines and new experiences. In my free time, I like surfing the social medias or review websites to see if there are any grand opening restaurants or interesting events in town. I am enjoying the taste of new dishes and the cultural atmosphere at these events. After every visit, I love to share my experiences and memories with my friends on my social medias, and recently I have written some restaurant review articles for my school tourism club pages. Through these posts, I am able to share my interests and hobbies to friends and others, as well as to improve my writing skills in travel contents.

The primary reasons why I chose to study Tourism at TRU are the hand-on experiences in classes and the opportunities to involve in the local tourism businesses. During my first year at TRU, I worked on both individual and groups projects in a variety of tourism topics. For example, in Introduction to tourism class, I had chances to design a tri-fold brochure to promote tourism businesses and products in my hometown. In Tourism policy and planning class, I also created a tourism experiences route for the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, which you can find more details on the Mapping project pages. These opportunities helped me to understand deeply in tourism businesses and development plans of different destinations, as well as gave me highly applicable tools for my future career. After completing my diploma in TRU, I aim to gain experiences and knowledges in enhancing tourism services and experiences as well as useful marketing approaches and strategies for tourism businesses.

Before coming to TRU, I had 2-year experience of working in JTB, a Japanese tourism corporation. I was in charge in tourism products development which I researched, contacted and negotiated with hotels, restaurants and local stakeholders in order to create a full itinerary for a group tour based on customers’ requests and expectations. For example, if a Japanese school want their students to learn about local agricultures and visit a local school, my team will contact local farms and schools to create and propose a tour plan and how that tour will benefit the school and their students. Besides the professional experiences I have gained in JTB, I am also interested in understanding tourist behaviours and trends, as well as planning and launching marketing campaigns for tourism businesses or destinations. I love working in the travel industry as I can feel and understand the values it creates and contributes to the sustainable economic growth, as well as connects different cultures and provides business solutions to solve problems through travelling.
This site was created for two purposes. Firstly, I am sharing my experiences along my study at TRU and my way in tourism career. Secondly, this is also a space to showcase the projects I have worked in Tourism policy and planning class, as well as other classes in the future.
